Rep. Osmond Seeking Collaborative Effort For Education Reform
Cache Valley Daily
by Jennie Christensen
February 8, 2012

Education reform is a very high priority for Republican State Senator Aaron Osmond who has spent many hours in the classroom and communicating with teachers prior to the start of the 2012 legislative session.

On KVNU's For the People program Tuesday, Osmond said it's not just more money that teachers feel they need, it's also help with the many challenges such as the disengagement of parents from their children's education.

"There's little support relative to things like homework, or accountability, to behaviors in the classroom," Osmond said. "There's just a real challenge socially that parents are either so busy and economically challenged themselves, some of them holding two or three jobs, or their families are so busy there's so many things going on they're unable to engage in a personal way, a meaningful way in the education of their own children."

Osmond says he's hoping there will be a collaborative effort to bring parents, teachers, administrators and others together to recognize the gaps and then find the best way to fix those gaps to help our children achieve a higher academic outcome.
